On Sunday 22 January 2012 in Cordoba Cathedral in Spain, Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, presided at the inaugural Mass for the one-thousandth cursillo organised in the diocese by the Cursillos de Cristiandad. The Mass was concelebrated by the bishop of Cordoba, Most Rev.Demetrio Fernández, the archbishop of Seville, Most Rev. Juan José Asenjo, the bishop of Asidonia-Jerez, Most Rev. José Mazuelo, the bishop of Segovia, Most Rev. Ángel Rubio and the apostolic nuncio in Spain, Most Rev. Renzo Fratini.
Cardinal Ryłko reminded the two thousand people present that the world today is in need of Christians who are holy. Lay associations and movements must be missionary and evangelisers, and they must be true schools of communion.
