About two hundred and fifty delegates from around the world will meet from 28 March to 1 April next at the International Meeting on WYD. It is being held by the Pontifical Council for the Laity at Rocca di Papa near Rome.

The first day will be devoted to sharing and testimonies about WYD in Madrid and its pastoral results. Reference will be made to the Pope’s address to the Roman Curia for Christmas on 22 December last. The second day will be given to information about the pastoral and logistical preparations for WYD in Brazil. The Organising Committees of Madrid 2011 and Rio 2013 will be present at the Meeting.

There will be a topic for discussion on the third day: the Christian education of young people as a principle mission of the Church. With talks and exchange of experience among the participants, the issue of youth ministry and the challenges of education today will be discussed.

It has become a tradition for youth ministry leaders from bishops’ conferences and international youth movements and associations to come together between one WYD and the next to spend some time in study and sharing. Keeping in mind the next synod of bishops on the new evangelisation and on the upcoming Year of Faith, the delegates, with their experience of renewal in the faith in Madrid, will prepare to listen again to the missionary call of Our Lord, the theme of the Rio WYD: “Go and make disciples of all nations!” (Mt 28:19)

The Meeting will conclude on Sunday 1 April in Saint Peter’s Square for Palm Sunday Mass presided by Pope Benedict XVI. This will be the diocesan celebration of the 27th World Youth Day.
