On Monday 17 September 2012, Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, presided at the Mass that concluded the first day of the General Assembly of Unum Omnes, the International Council of Catholic Men. The Assembly was held in Rome from 15 to 22 September 2012. In his homily, Cardinal Rylko pointed out that the Assembly was taking place as we approach a significant time for the Church: the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, the opening of the Year of Faith, and the Synod of Bishops on the new evangelisation. «All of these events», he said, «are very important for the vocation and mission of Catholic men in the Church and the world».
