Krakow 2016

“INTEGRAL ECOLOGY & LAUDATO SI’

Youth as protagonists for change”

JAGIELLONIAN UNIVERSITY- 25 JULY 2016

The conference will be held in Krakow (Poland) in the lecture hall of Jagiellonian University on 25 of July 2016 starting at 9:00, at the opening of the 31st World Youth Day. It was proposed as a result of the conference “Guardians of Creation” organized during WYD 2013 in Rio de Janeiro.

The promoters and organizers are:

-The John Paul II Foundation for youth/ Pontifical Council for the Laity

-The Pontifical Catholic University of John Paul II of Krakow

-The Committee of World Youth Day Krakow 2016

The new element in respect to the previous conference is the release of ‘Laudato Si,’ where Pope Francis expands on the concept of  ‘Integral Ecology,’ placing man at the center, along with the poor, disabled, and the disadvantaged. The conference will also discuss the right to food and land in many ways, the relationship between sustainability and democracy, problems of supply, and the reality of the present water reserve situation. Sustainable development should be understood as a way of life rather than an obstacle to overcome.

For this reason, the organization and membership also involves:

-The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace

-The Ministry for the Environment of Italy

-The Ministry for the Environment of Poland

-The Albert II of Monaco Foundation

It is fundamental to educate younger generations in these contexts. Therefore, young people will be encouraged to share their individual testimonies on these matters and will also be involved at the conference along with the experts from the Scientific Committee.

Episcopal Conferences, communities, movements, and associations that participate in WYD as well as other international organizations particularly interested in the topic, can inquire about sending representatives to participate by completing the following application form.
