The first meeting between the Pontifical Council for the Laity and the Local Organizing Committee (COL) of the World Youth Day in Rio in 2013 was held on December 13th at our offices in San Calisto. The Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, Dom Orani João Tempesta, headed up the committee that also included auxiliary Bishops Dias Duarte and César Costa and Bishop Portella, the executive coordinator and other members of the organizing committee.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen the already fruitful collaboration between the offices in Rome and Rio de Janeiro and to review the main organizational aspects of World Youth Day which the various departments of the local organizing committee are already working on with much dedication. During this meeting, the official logo of the World Youth Day 2013 was also selected from among several proposals and the organizing committee will make it public as soon as the copyright paperwork is completed. The dates of the World Youth Day were also reconfirmed and it will take place in the Brazilian metropolis of Rio from July 23 to 28, 2013.
