23 November 2012 – A delegation from the Pontifical Council for the Laity will take part in the 2nd Preparatory Meeting for the 2013 WYD in Rio De Janeiro (July 23rd to 28th 2013). The delegation is led by its President, Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko, and Secretary, Bishop Josef Clemens, and includes the officials from the Youth Section.
The first preparatory meeting took place in Rome in April in 2012 and, as is usual, the second preparatory meeting will take place in the host city, from November 25th – 29th 2012. Representatives from more than seventy countries and forty ecclesial movements and youth associations will be in Rio for this meeting, organised by the WYD Rio Local Organising Committee.
One day of the meeting will focus on practical and organisational questions, another day on specifically pastoral questions. The Pontifical Council for the Laity delegation will visit the sites for WYD major events and celebrations, as well as holding working sessions with the Local Organising Committee and the civil authorities of the City and State of Rio.
On November 30th and December 1st the Pontifical Council for the Laity delegation will be in Brasilia for meetings with the delegates for youth apostolate from all the Brazilian dioceses.
