On Saturday May 11, 2013 in the Basilica of Saint Paul outside the Walls, His Eminence Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone presided the solemn liturgy of beatification of Mons. Luigi Novarese. The servant of God, John Paul II had defined him “the apostle of the sick”. Mons Noverese is the founder of Silent Workers of the Cross and of the Center of Apostolate of the Suffering. (These are two amongst the various associations, recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity, born by the evangelical spirit of service to the poorest.)
In his homily the Secretary of State described mons Novarese as “a witness of the Gospel who adored God in the sick and suffering people, because he had discovered in them the living ostensory of the Passion of Christ”.
The Basilica of Saint Paul outside the Walls was filled with people carrying disabilities and sick persons who were happy and moved because of the beatification of their protector; they arrived from the farthest part of the world, even from Australia. They all had a smile on their face, a clear sign of the intuition of Blessed Novarese.
